Just Stuff

firestack_2016I can just feel summer sneaking up on us up here in the country as the temperatures creep above 80 degrees. But winter, or at least those chilly nights are hanging on and we’re looking for another cool one tonight.  I’ll enjoy those while I can.  We’ll be running the A/C 24/7 before long.

Took advantage of these last few ‘cool’ days and finished burning the two piles of debris we had. Knowing there is rain to follow makes me feel safer about burning.

Did have a curious mishap while stoking one pile. Had a cinder fly up and land on my foot.  Didn’t even know it until my foot started to burn (like the devil I might add) ;  looked down to see my sock smoking as the fire continue to burn a hole in it!

petbotanicsHave to say didn’t know I could move that fast.  Had the shoe and sock off in no time to see a burned spot on my foot the same size as the hole in my sock. I now have a lovely blister.  Guess next time I’ll be a little more careful.

Went to get Bear a fresh bag of treats the other day and noticed that they did not look normal. The were covered in a powdery looking substance.  Called the 800 number on the package and the very nice lady told me that it was probably a mold that had gotten in and they should be thrown out.  In her words, ‘mold is never good.”  Even our furry friends need to have their food watched.  The bag of moldy treats are now trashed and the lady I spoke with was nice enough to send me a replacement bag.

sneakersDavid went looking for his old sneakers the other day, found them in the back of the closet. He likes the shoes BUT he doesn’t like to tie the laces.  So to eliminate that problem, I bought a package of round elastic at the store and replaced his laces.  All I had to do was thread the elastic through the eyelets just like the shoe laces; had him slide his foot in; then tied the ends of the elastic so the shoe fit comfortably.  Put several knots in so hopefully they will stay tied.    He can now slip them on and off with out any trouble.  Problem solved!

It would seem that there are more add-ons in when cooking than I realized.   Isn’t it funny once you start looking for something  you notice it everywhere ?

Honey – Teriyaki Chicken packaged seasoning:

honeyteriyakichicken

We like the Honey-Teriyaki chicken, especially grilled, but the flavor straight from the package seemed a little wanting. So I added 1 tablespoon honey to listed ingredients.  As I said, we like this cooked on skewers on the grill, however,  IF I am cooking it inside, in addition to the honey I’ll add 1-2 tablespoons of brown sugar BBQ sauce.

BTW – this is a picture of the dish after baking it in the oven – what a mess!!! Got the dish clean by soaking it in hot water with about a tablespoon of powdered dishwasher detergent overnight. Next morning, it washed up easy.  This also works well on pots, roasters, racks, etc. that have been burned.  Just soak overnight and they practically rinse clean.  Just be sure to use dishwasher detergent.

burntpan

cinnamonbunsWe also like the cinnamon rolls from the refrigerated section of the grocery but they’re even better if you generously grease the pan with about a tablespoon of butter then add finely chopped pecans to the tops before baking.

Can’t leave the frosting alone either. For the frosting I put it in a separate bowl that contains  1 tablespoons of softened cream cheese, 1-2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of almond (or vanilla) flavoring.  Mix everything together and frost baked rolls.  Yummy !!!!

Looks like we’re going to have a beautiful week and to get it started David was out riding his tractor. He has a birthday tomorrow, what a blessing we are able to celebrate another year.
